You may know someone with a Coach brand handbag but did you know they made cheese??
Everybody loves wine and cheese tastings, they are so exotic with wines you may never have heard of and cheese you never knew existed... like Coach brand Fresh Goat cheese ... it is as white as snow with hints of lemon. And it pairs very well with Woodchuck Amber Cider. Yep, that's right CIDER... not wine!
With this in mind, we're going to try something a little different at Sal & Mookie's with a BEER and Cheese tasting on SUNDAY, January 31st from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Seating will be limited, reservations will be required.
Leading us on this culinary experience will be our very own Montie Moore, a self-taught cheese aficionado with a passion for cheese and a love of talking about cheese... a perfect combination for our Sunday plans!
Montie will lead us through a beer and cheese pairing, starting with the before-mentioned Coach Farms Goat Cheese, and then on to the following:
Appenzellar- a quintessential Swiss cheese, the one you think of when it comes to Swiss cheese. With it's nutty and robust flavors it is a perfect match for Noble Pils, Swiss cheese and a "noble" beer... simply delish!!
We will follow that with a French cheese: Comte'. A semi-hard cheese with aromas from toast to dark chocolate and leather or plums it pairs well with Sal & Mookie's perennial "tap favorite" Stella Artois.
Then a wonderful Spanish sheep's milk cheese: La Serena. Creamy and tangy this cheese pairs wonderfully with Peachtree Pale Ale.
The next pairing will be a Blue cheese from the West coast with a stout from the East coast, of Ireland that is. Point Reyes Blue is an American original and pairs perfectly with that other original, Guiness Irish Stout.
We will finish with a dessert of sorts: peanut butter and jelly. Yes, Le Drean a cheese that tastes like peanuts. Perfect to go with the grapy goodness of Purple Haze by Abita. PB&J was NEVER this good!
Sound great? We think so!
The date is Sunday, January 31st, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Sal & Mookie's in Fondren.
The cost will be $35 per person. Seating is limited.
